Love the Skin You’re In: Reclaiming Your Style in Midlife
Love the Skin You’re In: Reclaiming Your Style After Body Change
By Tina Schwahn, Personal Stylist & Creator of The Confident Closet
Somewhere along the way, between COVID, menopause, raising kids, and the busyness of life, many of us stopped recognizing the woman in the mirror.
We traded in structured outfits for sweats, stopped buying clothes that fit, and began tucking away the pieces that used to “work,” hoping we’d one day fit into them again.
And somewhere in that process… we also stopped showing up for ourselves.
This post isn’t about how to “get your body back.”
It’s about how to reconnect with your body now, and dress her with honor, intention, and style.
The First Shift: Stop Hiding
As a personal stylist, I meet so many women who want to “hide” something.
Their belly.
Their arms.
Their thighs.
Their age.
I’ve seen so many YouTube thumbnails that shout, “How to hide your...” and it honestly breaks my heart. Because your style should never be built on shame.
When we stop trying to disappear, we start to reappear with presence, personality, and power.

In this week’s video, I walk through:
- Why “shrink yourself” advice is outdated and harmful
- 3 outfit strategies that work with your body, not against it
- Tools (not rules) for using color, silhouette, and texture
- What to do with your “someday” clothes that no longer serve you
Use Tools, Not Rules
Forget chasing the hourglass. The key to feeling stylish again is variety and intention.
✅ Use silhouette play (slim + flowy, tailored + soft)
✅ Layer texture and structure for depth
✅ Place color and print where you want to draw the eye
✅ Choose clothing that fits the body you have right now, not the body you had ten years ago
The goal isn’t to create illusions. The goal is to create interest.
To feel good.
To walk into your closet and say, “This feels like me.”
What About the Clothes That No Longer Fit?
One of the biggest sources of guilt I see in midlife closets is the “someday” section.
The jeans that used to fit.
The dress from 15 pounds ago.
The blazer you might get back into someday.
Inside The Confident Closet, I teach you how to respectfully archive, release, or replace those pieces, so you’re no longer haunted by them every morning.
You Deserve to Feel Seen Again
Loving the skin you’re in is not a one-day fix.
It’s a process of showing up, in small, kind ways, until you begin to feel like you again.
If you’re ready to start, I’d love to invite you inside The Confident Closet, my foundational course for women in midlife who want simplicity, clarity, and confidence in their style again.
